Why NOT to get a Golden

Ok, I feel like I have to write this as I am getting many calls of people interested in these dogs.  Marley is my first dog as an adult and while I had done extensive research on the best family breed, there were some things I DIDN'T know that I had to learn and for some people, this may be a deal breaker. Here it goes.....

1. If you like your dogs ONLY outside, this dog is NOT for you. Now, I DO like my dogs outside. Growing up, they always stayed outside unless it was freezing. I think that is fine if that is what you prefer, HOWEVER, these dogs think they are people. They like to BE with their people. They like to lay at your feet, follow you to the restroom, just be with you. In fact,  I have to sit with Marley while she nurses or she will get up to follow me. Being totally honest, YES, I have left them outside all day before and they get bored and tear something up, dig a hole, do something they know they shouldn't.

2. They shed. A LOT. These dogs shed more than any other dog, I think. Everywhere. All the time. And they like to be inside (see point #1). If you have dog allergies, I would recommend another breed. Get ready to sweep. A LOT.

Those are the two major things. If you can get past those things, this is the BEST dog ever. WELL worth the shedding and shadowing!

The puppies are growing like crazy!

See the "yuck" that the puppies are laying in? NO, I would never let them lay in filth, it is PUPPY FOOD! That is right! They started on puppy food just shy of 3 weeks.  (Vet approved, of course!) Mama is still doing an amazing job, but she is naturally weaning them.  At 3 to 4 weeks, it is perfectly natural for the mother to do this. How? She starts by standing up and walking away from a puppy that is nursing and they also regurgitate their food (THAT was awesome to come home to!).  However, she does allow them to nurse a few times a day and they are all very healthy.  When I give them the food, they gobble it up and then pass out! Some of them even moan in their sleep. Fat and happy.  Another milestone this week was paper training. Yes, it is true. I have paper trained all the puppies. You're welcome! They have had a few accidents, but overall, they are some smart pups!

AND.... they puppies got REAL collars. No more ribbon.  I will be posting individual pics soon. They are already asleep tonight.
